I live and work on the traditional homeland of the Dakota people, just a few miles north of the bdote, the site of both their genesis and their genocide.

I also live and work in the same area where George Floyd, Philando Castile, Daunte Wright, Jamar Clark and 50 other Black men and one woman, as well as 15 American Indians, have been killed by police in the last 20 years.

We live in a culture steeped in injustice. That injustice drives trauma. And trauma is a significant factor in both addiction and family dysfunction. In my work, I try my best not to cosign that injustice.
